The 2009 Clio Cup gets underway this weekend at Brands Hatch in Kent and pre season testing proves that this one make Championship promises to be as competitive as ever.
One driver who has consistently topped the testing time sheets is Phil Glew. Glew will contest the Championship for the second year running, having finished 3rd in his first front wheel drive season in 2008.
Glew is an experienced rear wheel drive racer and looked upon his maiden Clio Cup season in 2008 as a steep learning curve. Glew now feels confident in his driving ability and has chosen to join current Clio Cup Champions Team Pyro to give him the best chance of clinching the 2009 title.
Glew has topped the time sheets in all pre season tests bar one, where completed only a few laps to bed in a new gearbox. His pre season performance in both wet and dry conditions, plus consistent podium finishes in 2008 prompted Autosport magazine to name Glew the driver to beat in 2009.
Glew has a new car, a new team and is looking forward to everything the 2009 season has to offer.
When asked about the season ahead Glew commented “I have trained hard mentally and physically over the winter months and I am really looking forward to the first race at my favourite circuit, Brands Hatch. I feel in great shape and cannot thank my sponsors enough for making this possible. Let’s hope I can give them some excellent results and a few bottles of champagne from the podium!”
Glew returns this year with the support of long standing sponsors WD-40, DAS Business furniture and STMC building control plus new sponsors 3 in 1 Professional and maycontain.com
